Assembly & Kitting

Kitting

"Kitting" is to mean the pre-assembly of components into one finished product that is sold as a single SKU. The components of the finished unit could be shipped as individual products. FP calls a pre-kitted finished product a package.

Each component item is given a SKU and is inventoried and tracked accordingly. When directed by the client, FP will enter an assembly order for the package. When the job is entered, our system checks for component stock availability to complete the order. The system generates a screen-alert if there are shortages. In the case of component shortages, the ASR will either alert the client in order to replenish stock, create an internal manufacturing order, order the product from the appropriate vendors, or adjust the assembly order quantity as directed by the client. At the time the job is scheduled in the system, component item inventory is reduced from its quantity available and issued to the assembly order systematically. The product is physically pulled and staged. Unless the order is unusually large or the package is backordered, the package is received into the system when the assembly order is complete. When the finished package is backordered or if the assembly order is large, partial receipts of the package may occur prior to completion of the order. Client-specific, password-protected, real-time, inventory activity is available on-line for components and finished product.

FP has an internal staff structure and labor pool that can quickly respond to special projects and last-minute orders. Our 24 / 7 / 365 call center staff is fully-trained in all aspects of our operation which allows for a quick expansion of resources. We also have a variable labor pool that can be ramped up in 1-2 business days for large short-term projects.

The pre-assembly of components into one finished product that we call a package is appropriate in many situations. However, FP also has the ability to kit at the time of order / pick-and-pack. In this instance, a kit — an item that is sold as a group of items but not pre-assembled and instead stocked as individual items — will print on the packing slip and the associated finished item components to the kit that will be pulled will be listed directly under the non-inventoried kit item.

Sub-Assembly Of Kits & De-Kitting

Once a group of products is pre-assembled into a finished, unique SKU (a package), it is stored and tracked in inventory as that complete package unit. If demand for the components of the package exceeds the component inventory, disassembly of the package is an option. A disassembly order is entered and the components are physically and systematically returned to inventory.

Destruction Process

A destruction order is entered into the system by the ASR. The order generates the necessary paperwork to pull the product from inventory. The product is verified and counted.

The product can be placed in our compactor and compacted.

FP's contracted trash service can be called and the product taken to a landfill, to a transfer station and crushed, or to an incinerator. The trash service provides certification of the action taken.

Video tapes can be degaussed. When degaussing, the product is verified and counted again after the degaussing. The tapes are de-labeled and returned to client raw stock inventory if instructed to do so by the client, otherwise tapes can be destroyed at client direction using one of the general options above.

DVDs and CDs can be shredded and disposed of at client direction.

Upon completion of the destruction, the employee signs-off on the job for internal documentation, and the client is notified via e-mail unless more formal documentation is required.
